EMERGE: A Fundraiser for the Mental Health Society of Greater Victoria and the Victoria Native Friendship Centre’s Health Team kicks off September 1st!
The Mental Health Society of Greater Victoria is an interdisciplinary team of volunteers founded in 2018 to address the increasing demand for accessible mental health services and resources in the community.
The mission of the Society is to work collaboratively with various service providers and organizations to better support the diverse mental health needs of people in Greater Victoria, British Columbia.
The larger goal is to foster a community that speaks openly about mental health. For people who are new to the system, this means creating connections with the organization serving as a central hub for free education, training, and resource navigation. Ultimately, the Society hopes to equip the people of the greater community with all the tools and information they need to care for each other’s mental health.
The Victoria Native Friendship Centre is a non-profit organization providing support to urban Indigenous community for over 50 years. The Centre provides culturally safe wrap-around services across the life-space from pre-natal to elders. Our Health Team includes Wellness and Addictions, Mental Health, Health Support, Housing Support, and our VNFC Garden. Community members can also be connected to the diverse resources we have throughout the centre. We use a wholistic approach to respond to community needs – meeting physical needs through our food hamper program and on-site medical clinic, emotional needs through our caring support workers, mental needs through access to education and training options, and spiritual needs with connections to elders and cultural knowledge keepers, and access to sacred medicines. We want people to feel connected and supported while they navigating life’s challenges and celebrate their personal growth.
